Write and edit articles
Review sources, choose length and images, and refine your drafts.
Each article starts with its topic, business context and available opportunity evidence. outwrite.ai uses its writing frameworks to structure the answer, then researches sources and checks the resulting draft.
Outside research is part of writing
The writer uses saved source excerpts, not just your website summary. For comparisons and alternatives, it seeks official primary sources for the named businesses. Secondary reporting is labeled as such and should not become an unsupported product claim.
Research has a bounded reading budget. It selects useful pages rather than collecting a large number of links for appearance. An unread search snippet is not treated as a verified source.
What a good draft contains
The format depends on the subject. Useful elements can include a direct opening answer, practical decision criteria, comparison tables, supported examples, real lists, contextual internal links and relevant FAQs.
The framework guides structure. It is not permission to invent statistics, customer outcomes, prices or firsthand testing.
Choose article length
| Setting | Target | Final checking range |
|---|---|---|
| Short | 700 words | 630–770 |
| Standard | 1,200 words | 1,080–1,320 |
| In depth | 2,200 words | 1,980–2,420 |
| Comprehensive | 3,200 words | 2,880–3,520 |
Set the default during onboarding or in Plan → Schedule and publishing. An individual article can override its next writing run. Existing drafts are not rewritten when the default changes.
The count includes visible headings, tables, lists and FAQs. It is a target range rather than a guarantee of one exact word count.
Featured images
outwrite.ai searches Pexels for a landscape photo that fits the article's subject and saves the selected cover with the draft. It prefers photos your workspace has not recently used and includes descriptive alt text and photographer credit.
Open an article in Plan to preview its cover. Choose Replace to search for another photo, or Remove to publish without one. Removing a cover is remembered. Editing the text keeps your cover; restoring an older version also restores that version's cover. Changing the cover clears any existing publishing approval.
If photo search is temporarily unavailable or no suitable match is found, your finished article stays saved. Eligible automatic work retries missing covers later. You can also choose a photo yourself. An image-service outage does not restart article writing.
Your selected cover travels with the article through supported publishing integrations. Webflow and Framer need the image field mapped during setup; a custom webhook receiver must handle the image fields. Check your destination guide for template requirements.
Review and repair
Writing includes source and structure checks, an editorial humanizer pass and independent claim review, with bounded repair where appropriate. The style pass is constrained to preserve facts, citations and meaningful structure.
If a source cannot be read, a request is unconfirmed or a claim remains unsupported, the draft may need attention. Autopilot respects these holds.
Inspect the evidence
Open the article's checks and sources to understand what was reviewed. A completed draft and a checked draft are different states. Editing later creates a new revision and makes earlier approval or checks outdated.
Edit an article
Open a draft from Plan. Use the visual editor for headings, links, lists, tables and images, or HTML source for markup that needs direct control. Save or discard unsaved manual changes before asking AI to edit.
Describe a focused change, such as “Make the opening more direct without changing the table or citations.” Inspect the preview, then choose Keep changes to save it. Use the visual editor for layout changes.
Saving creates a revision and clears earlier approval. Restoring an older version creates another revision instead of erasing history. Changes here do not silently update an article already live in your CMS.
Teach it your preferences
When you keep an AI edit, explicit reusable feedback can become future writing guidance. “Use British spelling” can apply across articles; “Remove this paragraph” is a one-off edit. Inspect or remove learned guidance in Schedule and publishing.
What makes an article useful
Give readers a clear answer, meaningful criteria and evidence they can check. Comparisons should explain fit and tradeoffs; how-to articles should help someone finish a task. Your own customer evidence and expertise can add value when accurate and attributable.
Keep headings descriptive, use real lists and tables, and place source links near the claims they support. Check that published pages are accessible and aren't accidentally blocked from indexing. Clear formatting helps, but it doesn't guarantee an AI citation.
