Connect Shopify
Send articles to a selected blog in your store.
Connect a Shopify blog using your store domain and an Admin API access token. This is a token-based connection, not a one-click Shopify app installation.
Before you start
Have a blog in your store, access to the Shopify admin and an Admin API access token authorized for that store with read_content and write_content access. Use the store's your-store.myshopify.com domain, not its custom storefront domain.
Get the right access token
For an existing legacy custom app, open its API credentials in Shopify admin and use its installed Admin API access token. An API key, client secret or Storefront token is not the same thing.
Shopify no longer lets stores create new legacy custom apps in the admin. New Dev Dashboard apps obtain tokens through an authorization flow; they do not reveal a permanent token to copy in the same screen. Follow Shopify's current app setup guidance, or ask your store developer to provide an appropriate token.
outwrite.ai does not renew pasted tokens automatically. If your app supplies expiring tokens or you do not have a suitable token, use a custom webhook with an automation service that manages its Shopify connection, or ask support before proceeding. Do not paste a client secret into the token field.
Connect your store
- Open Plan → Schedule and publishing → Connect or manage a website → Shopify, or choose Shopify during onboarding.
- Enter Shop Domain, such as
your-store.myshopify.com, withouthttps://or a page path. - Paste the Admin API Access Token. Optionally enter an App Name to recognize the connection later.
- Choose Find my blogs. This checks access and lists available blogs; it does not publish an article.
- Under Select Blog, choose the blog that should receive your articles.
- Choose Connect website. The saved store and selected blog appear under Connected stores.
Check your first draft
Return to Plan → Schedule and publishing, select the saved Shopify destination and choose Draft mode. Deliver one reviewed article, then find it in Shopify's blog-post editor. Inspect its title, body, selected blog and featured image before publishing.
outwrite.ai sends article HTML and the selected cover with alt text. Your storefront theme controls the layout. Check tables, headings, links and the cover on your theme's preview. If you remove the cover before delivery, the article is sent without one.
Turn on scheduled publishing
After checking the draft, choose live delivery, your publishing pace and the review mode in outwrite.ai. Autopilot can publish checked articles on your saved schedule. Connecting the store by itself does not turn this on.
Keep the connection active. Deactivate prevents it from being used as an active destination; it does not delete posts in Shopify. Removing a connection also leaves delivered articles intact.
Troubleshooting
| What you see | What to check |
|---|---|
| Invalid domain | Use the store's exact myshopify.com domain without a protocol or path. |
| No blogs found | Create a blog in Shopify and confirm the token has content access to the same store. |
| Token rejected | Use an Admin API access token, not the client secret or Storefront token. Check whether access was revoked or the token expired. |
| Wrong blog | Check the blog shown on the saved connection and the destination selected in Plan before sending another article. |
| Delivery awaiting confirmation | Check the existing remote article before retrying so you do not create a duplicate. |
Never share tokens in Ask or support chat. Use only the connection form for credentials.
